There is a 63% chance of a “very strong,” super El Niño November through January that would rank among the largest El Niño events since 1950, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center stated June 11 on its website.
“That is up from a 37% chance of super El Niño conditions during the same months, according to the center’s May 14 prediction.
“Everything is pointing in the direction of an extremely strong El Niño, but we will see where it ends up,” Russ Schumacher, professor in Colorado State University’s Department of Atmospheric Science and Colorado’s state climatologist, told the Coloradoan.”
