Snow returns to Colorado’s mountains just in time for Presidents Day weekend, one of the busiest weekends at ski areas.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until noon Feb. 12 for the Elkhead and Park mountains in northern Colorado.
The service issued a winter weather advisory until 11 a.m. Feb. 12 for an area above 9,000 feet including Cameron Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, Willow Creek Pass and the Laramie and Medicine Bow mountains and Rabbit Ears Range.
The Interstate 25 urban corridor is not expected to see any snow.
Timing of Colorado snowstorm and impacts to travel
The National Weather Service forecast calls for snowfall intensifying the afternoon of Feb. 11, bringing heavy snowfall at times through the morning of Feb. 12 to the northern mountains.
The Park Range is expected to receive 6 to 15 inches of snow with some localized amounts up to 20 inches possible.
The Front Range mountains are forecast to see 4 to 10 inches of snow with localized amounts up to 15 inches north of Interstate 70.
